Fire Escape' Plan.......Safety 6 Months, 1 Week ago

How many of us 'Campers' have an 'Escape' plan at home in the , event of a FIRE ???
But, when we are either away in our , Motor-homes,Camper-trailers,Caravans, Tents...or what-ever....We have never given it a thought.
Lets discuss and hear each others ideas that they think may save our lives if it ever occured to us.
Its common practice to have smoke alarms, fire blanket and a fire extinguisher close by, but if you have a real fire going on, most small extinguishers are like f*****ting against thunder.....AND...who goes out first ????...should we have a window that pops out ...or a knife handy to cut your way out of a tent...
Any Ideas ??????
(I think Avis would huddle behind my back to get out...or I'd push her through the window first...(keep in mind, a lot of caravan windows are small and high off the ground from out-side)
Cheers

Hi all all of the above points are correct, we keep a fire blanket each at the sleeping end to our van that way you have some protection to leave the van or tent with.
The best protection is a good working smoke alarm.
Remember SMOKE is the killer not the flames.
ps I have been in the Fire Service for 28 years

Good to have a 'Fire-man' on board ay.....I sometimes think campers don't take this serious enough ...IT COULD HAPPEN TO YOU !!!!
Another point....its coming on winter....how do campers keep themselves warm 'SAFELY,during this period ???....
Iv'e heard all sorts of horrendous stories how some campers do it....one that comes to mind is...the placing of a ceramic dish up-side down on the gas ring so that they get the 'radiant' heat...man,,,,how dangerous is that??? (poison gas's not burnt, released into the confined space)...
What sort of 'First-Aid' kit do you have...in-case of burns ???
MAYBE 'CJGULL' could help us out here ????

Hi all
The best advice one can give is if it can turn into a dangerous situation it probably will especially when camping with help a long way away.
Any first aid kit sold in the shops would be sufficient as long as it has bangages, gauze ,and burn cream .
For severe burns cover the area burned with banages to prevent infection and seek medical help ,keep in mind severe burns can also cause Trauma to the affected person
As for heating any naked flame is dangerous as well as any electrical appliance ,just dont fall asleep wiyh them still on

having always carried around a first aid kit and never having used it... i finally did. Kids throwing sand at each other and using their boggie boards as sheilds in their game. Yes they have all been told since they were babies not to throw sand at each other, but no accounting for how a teenager thinks. One got an eye full of sand, so glad i had eye wash tubes in the first aid kit. Or it would have been a long (several hours) and painful trip to the doctors for the poor kid.

I think we also need to plan in the event of a bush fire. A fire inside or started by a camper by accident is one thing, but a fire sweeping through the bush is another.
We always have a exit route mapped out and quick plan if anything like this occurs
