The start included a trip to friends at Eden Valley this included lots of alcohol and plenty of work on mates places ie slashing some blocks, taking nets off vines,  picking grapes. We then took off to Yarrawonga to meet some friends on the river great time until the yahoos started up so we left and moved to our friends place at Batlow. We left Sydney mid afternoon one Friday towards the end of June, Michael, Zoe our 9 year old daughter and myself, with the car packed to the hilt ready for an adventure that had been in the planning for about 18 months and in my mind for about 10 years.  We had 8 cars in total going on the trip and the official meeting place for the first night was Nyngan on the Saturday but we decided to break the journey and stop over at Welllington on the Friday night.  Although we'd left Sydney in beautiful weather it deteriorated as we headed west and we were very glad to reach Wellington Caves Caravan Park and get out of the rain.  Two other vehicles from our group had decided to stop there the night as well and had spare steaks and salad ready for us, way to go!  We stayed in a cabin with its own bathroom and they were basic but clean and large.  The camp kitchen was good and the recreation room was large and warm with pool table, tv, tables and chairs etc.

Next morning was a relatively early start to head on to Nyngan, ready to meet up with the rest of our group.  The bad weather from the night before had vanished thankfully.  We often use Nyngan as a starting point for our outback journeys and we always stay at Nyngan Riverside Caravan Park and I would highly recommend it.  The staff are always friendly and helpful and the park itself is lovely.  Obviously from its name, the park is situated on the banks of the Bogan River with the camping sites being on the river side of the park.  They provide fire drums and you can buy wood from the office/kiosk.  They also stock basic groceries. There is a shelter shed with benches and a sink (I think) and tables.  The unpowered sites are flat and grassy and not marked out so you have your choice of where you set up - great for groups or those that want their own little spot away from others.  The park is building up its wildlife inhabitants with possums, kangaroos, emus, camels, horses, lots of different birds and even a very overweight shetland pony called Incy which the older kids were allowed to walk around the park.  The amenities are always clean and in good order

Well, I have finally decided to take the plunge and start a blog.  Where to start is the question!

Michael and I have been camping for quite a number of years now and have been to some wonderful places.  The hardest part for me is deciding where to go as no doubt you will agree we have so many amazing places in this country to see its hard to pick.  Distance isnt an issue for us as long as we have the time to do it, hence WA is the only state we haven't gotten to yet.  Nor have we done much in SA but plan to change that in the near future and have it firmly in our sights for exploration over the next couple of years.  We are heading to the Flinders Ranges in October this year.

We have way too much camping gear but admit that the bulk of it gets used over time so it's all okay I guess.  We range from a swag, to small tents, bigger tents or the camper trailer depending where we are travelling and what sort of holiday it is.  We belong to a 4wd club which has given us the opportunity to travel with a great group of people to many different destinations such as the Simpson Desert, the Gulf Savannah, Tasmania, Fraser Island, outback NSW and more.  The outback holds a special place in my heart and I love to travel there but then again I was born and bred near the sea so the coast is also a very tempting drawcard for us.  In all honesty, as long as I am camping somewhere out of Sydney I'm usually pretty happy!

Of all our adventures the one that sticks in my mind the most was the trip we did in 2008 across the Gulf Savannah so that's where I'll start.  I am a terrible tourist in as much as I don't want to miss anything so what started as a 6 week trip ended up 7 weeks and a lot of rethinking in the planning stages lol.  The first plan took us about 5 weeks to get to Darwin and we hadn't even got to the Gulf part - there was just so much to see and do but I had to be sensible and console myself with the fact that getting back to places in NSW and Qld was much easier and doable than the Top End.

Have to give this a go as i think its a great idea.  Introductions first Im Belinda, Terry is my larger half and we have 3 kids who are rapidly getting older but currently are b13, b12, g10.

We live on the Redcliffe penisula Qld and are currently spending a fortune on camping gear as now im getting older we have up graded to a camp trailer + several tents for the kids and their friends.

We got the trailer for 2 reasons, 1. we needed a trailer to cart all our crap anyway and 2. after camping with friends (i have always been a tent person) who had trailers we realised it was taking us 3x longer to set up and pull down than it did them.

The only problem with having a trailer is you then go and buy all this extra stuff because you now have extra room to take things.  I am off to Bribie Island beach side to spend 8 days camping with the kids and some of their friends soon, hubby gets to stay home and work.  So we will see if i manage to get the trailer onto the beach and into the camp site without getting bogged.  I will remember to take pics if i manage to get bogged like i did last time.

Camping Trip 1 - Kalbarri via Dongara - June 2009.

First stop - Seaspray Caravan Park - Dongara WA

In June 2009 we set off from Fremantle for a weeks camping in Kalbarri, we stopped off at Dongara on the way for one night. We stayed at the Seaspray Caravan Park in Dongara which was a lovely park operated by friendly managers who were in the midst of renovating the park.  The park itself is literally only metres from the beach, the facilities were excellent and it was very clean throughout. It is a dog friendly park which was a must for us as we have 2 fairly large dogs.
